Complex Extractions at IDS
What is a Complex Extraction?
- The tooth is impacted (stuck beneath the gum line)
- The tooth has fractured at or below the gum line
- The tooth has extensive decay or damage
- There is insufficient bone structure to support the extraction
The Extraction Procedure
Initial Consultation
Before the procedure, you will have a comprehensive consultation where our team will evaluate your specific case through X-rays and a thorough examination. We will discuss the procedure, its necessity, and what you can expect.
Anaesthesia Options
For complex extractions, we offer various anaesthesia options. Local anaesthesia is typically administered to numb the area, but we also provide sedation options to help you feel more relaxed during the procedure.
Extraction Process
The dentist will carefully assess the tooth and surrounding tissues. Depending on the complexity, the procedure may involve: • Incising the gum tissue to access the tooth. • Removing bone around the tooth if necessary. • Extracting the tooth in sections if it is particularly difficult to remove.
Post-Extraction Care
Once the tooth is removed, our team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions. This includes managing pain, caring for the extraction site, and signs of potential complications.
Recovery After a Complex Extraction
Post-Operative Bleeding
Light bleeding is common, and you will be advised to bite down on gauze to control it.
Pain Management
Prescription or over-the-counter pain medications may be recommended to manage discomfort.
Dietary Guidelines
You should stick to soft foods and avoid hot or spicy meals for several days.
Hygiene
Maintain good oral hygiene, but be cautious around the extraction site. Avoid rinsing or spitting forcefully for the first 24 hours.
