Dr Alaa Bani Hani is a Clinical Lecturer and Specialist Registrar in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Leeds. She represents early-career researchers on the university’s Research and Innovation Committee and is the trainees’ representative for the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) Ridings Branch. Her research focuses on dental caries prevention and tooth wear.

Alaa completed her dental surgery degree in 2006, her MSc in Paediatric Dentistry in 2010, and her PhD in 2016, which evaluated cost-effectiveness and treatment acceptance of carious primary dentition treatments. She became a paediatric dental specialist in 2021 and a consultant in 2023.

She chairs the BSPD Teacher’s Branch, co-authored European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry guidelines, and leads the tooth auto-transplantation clinic at Eastman Dental Hospital. Alaa has won multiple research awards, including poster prizes at the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry and Health Education England.
